Western Tanager

A bird that looks like a tropical migrant, Western Tanagers are a favourite of many birders in BC. Slightly smaller than an American Robin, with yellow fronts and darker backs, males have striking orange-red heads.

Active seasons

May to September.

How/where to find

Although they breed throughout most of the province, and definitely stand out, they can be difficult to actually find. Thinner forests (ie. not deep in the woods) are your best bet.

You can find the Western Tanager throughout every Region and Outpost on The BC Bird Trail!
